Kenya has recorded a major milestone in its efforts to rehabilitate and reintegrate street-connected persons, with the street families population dropping by more than half over the last eight years. According to the 2025 National Census for Street Families Report, the number of street-connected persons declined from over 46,000 in 2018 to 18,049 by the end of 2025, thanks to targeted government interventions focusing on rehabilitation, family reintegration, child protection, education, and skills development. Speaking during the launch of the report in Naivasha, Gender, Culture, and Children Services Cabinet Secretary Hanna Wendot said the government remains committed to eliminating street families through increased investment in rehabilitation programmes and family support systems.
