The government has intensified efforts to cushion Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) against the effects of drought by accelerating the construction of water pans and strengthening the protection of key water towers. Irrigation Principal Secretary Ephatus Kimotho says the department has already dug hundreds of water pans in drought-prone regions, including Kajiado County, which is currently experiencing severe dry conditions. The initiative aims to improve water availability for communities and livestock during prolonged dry spells.
