Youth unemployment remains one of Kenya’s biggest challenges, with Kenyan graduates among more than 12 million young Africans who enter the jobs market. This is according to the World Bank, which further says that nearly 70 percent of youth are currently stuck in low-quality jobs, with only about 3 million formal jobs created annually. Speaking during the launch of the World Bank’s Africa Skills for Job Policy Academy in Nairobi on Tuesday, TVET Principal Secretary Dr. Esther Muoria said the government is transforming education and training to be practical, demand-driven, and closely tied to industry in a bid to address the growing unemployment crisis among the youth.
