Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has been drawn against his home country South Africa in the Pamoja Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that begin in September 2026. Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania qualify automatically as hosts but will still take part in the 48-team qualifiers. The 48 countries have been divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group qualify for the finals to be hosted in East Africa from 19th June to 17th July 2027. With the hosts already qualified, only one team from their groups will advance. Kenya is in Group D together with South Africa, Guinea and Eritrea. Uganda is in Group H alongside Tunisia, Libya and Botswana, while Tanzania will face Nigeria, Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau in Group L. The first two rounds of qualifiers will be played between 21st September and 6th October 2026.
