The government has moved to tighten its grip on who controls hiring, firing and workplace discipline across the country. This as the Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board announced a sweeping overhaul that will lock out unqualified HR managers and make state certification the only legal route to practicing human resource management. Speaking during the release of the December 2025 HR professional examination results in Nairobi, Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board Chief Executive Officer Margaret Nguu declared that HRMPEB is the only body mandated by law to certify HR professionals, warning that certificates issued by any other institution are fake and invalid, a move that directly affects thousands of people currently working as HR managers in both government and private companies.
