Hundreds of health workers took to the streets of Nairobi in a peaceful protest on Tuesday, before forcing their way into Ministry of health offices at Afya House, to demand permanent employment, payment of outstanding gratuities, and salary harmonization. The medics also rejected the transfer of their payroll to county government to take effect in July this year. As Joseph Wakhungu reports, the Ministry of Health has asked the Council of Governors to expedite the submission of verified Universal Health Coverage staff returns to facilitate the processing of the May 2025 payroll.
