The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is targeting to register 60,861 new voters in Siaya County during the ongoing 30-day voter registration exercise, County Elections Manager Ezekiel Juma has said. Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting in Siaya town, Juma urged local leaders and stakeholders to help mobilize eligible residents to register, noting that 2,858 new voters had already been registered within the first two days.
Siaya County Commissioner Norbert Jara Komora called on residents to turn up in large numbers, saying citizens should participate in electing leaders if they want development. Meanwhile, Siaya County Registrar of Persons Dickson Osore said over 100,000 new identity cards have been issued since 2022, with more than 11,000 still uncollected, urging applicants to pick them up and register as voters.
