Leaders in Kenya’s cooperative movement are proposing the establishment of an Economic Advisory Council of Chairpersons to strengthen governance, coordination, and policy engagement across the sector.
The proposal emerged during a two-day meeting organized by the Cooperative Alliance of Kenya (CAK), bringing together chairpersons and vice chairpersons from Saccos, agricultural, housing, consumer, transport, teacher, and other cooperative subsectors.
If established, the council will serve as the highest advisory organ to CAK, providing strategic guidance on governance reforms, leadership development, policy advocacy, and sector-wide coordination. Leaders say the initiative will help create a unified voice for the cooperative movement on key issues such as regulation, taxation, digital transformation, access to capital, and competitiveness.
