President William Ruto of Kenya and French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday witnessed the signing of 11 memoranda of understanding worth Sh150 billion in projects in Kenya, which President Ruto hopes will transform the country into a more developed economy. Among the deals agreed on is the expansion of the Port of Mombasa in a joint venture priced at Sh104 billion. However, key technical details such as the financing model and project timelines remain unavailable. Some recent engagements between Kenya and French companies have also left deals worth billions of shillings abandoned at a cost. Macron also reviewed the agreements as France deepens its role in Kenya’s economic and defence diplomacy.
