Kenya moves into nuclear era, KenGen to set up first 2GW plant

    The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum has designated the Kenya Electricity Generating Company, KenGen, as the owner and operator of the country’s first nuclear power plant, to be developed in partnership with the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency, NuPEA. Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi says the first phase of the nuclear programme will involve the development of a roughly 2-gigawatt facility, which the government intends to expand to as much as 6 gigawatts over time.
