Specialty tea farmers in Kenya are set to gain direct access to premium international markets following a new export agreement signed on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit attended by President William Ruto and French President Emmanuel Macron. The deal brings together French specialty tea company Palais des Thés, Kenyan producer Gatanga Industries Limited, and Equity Group Holdings, and is expected to open up European markets for Kenyan purple and specialty tea varieties. Under the agreement, the French tea house will source premium Kenyan teas including Purple White, Purple Golden, Purple Simba, and Purple Black, in a move expected to boost earnings for smallholder farmers while raising the global profile of Kenya’s specialty tea industry.
