Kenyan and international scientists have launched a groundbreaking climate research project along the shores of the Indian Ocean aimed at enhancing the ocean’s natural ability to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The initiative, bringing together the Technical University of Mombasa, GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research, and the Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute, is exploring Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE) , an emerging marine carbon dioxide removal technology.
