The Kenya Human Rights Commission has threatened to initiate proceedings against a local gold mining company before regional and international human rights mechanisms over what it terms as violent and oppressive mining operations in Ramula, Siaya Count
The Commission has raised concern over continued mining activities that have resulted in at least two deaths, despite a standing court order halting the operations.Human rights activists are now accusing state operatives of shielding the company and coercing residents to cede their land to pave way for mining, amid claims that no meaningful public participation was conducted and community concerns have been ignored.
