Kirinyaga County marked a milestone with the official launch of its first-ever Women’s Football League tournament, with 6 six teams drawn from the county’s four constituencies participating. Speaking during the launch, Kirinyaga County Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Chairman Denis Murimi said the league winner will advance to the Central Region Playoffs featuring top teams from Nyeri, Laikipia, Murang’a, and Kiambu counties. Murimi acknowledged the challenges faced in organizing the inaugural league, citing issues such as high affiliation and Football Kenya Federation registration fees, as well as a shortage of sports kits, which limited the number of participating teams. Specifically to women's football, Murimi said most are under their parents, who may not understand football, hence give restriction to their daughters, which, according to him require a lot of sensitization so that parents can appreciate sports as an investment. He calls upon the government to empower football branches.
