There’s growing alarm in Nairobi after early figures showed low turnout in the national mass voter registration drive. In Kariobangi North today, youth leaders from the Kenya Patriot Party launched a campaign urging young people to do more than just consume content online — they want them to use those platforms to mobilize their peers to register and vote. Led by Fatuma Mohamed, the group called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to make registration centers more accessible and to step up community voter education at markets, churches and public gathering. Organizers also appealed for mobile registration units, longer opening hours and intensified outreach so that barriers like distance and lack of awareness don’t stop young people from taking part. The youths say they’ll keep using social media to push peers to the registration centers — and they’ve launched a digital campaign encouraging young people to post when they register to inspire others to follow.
