    An African proverb says when a child washes his hands he could eat with kings. This form of washing of the hands that elevates the subject to greatness has a lot of semblance with a traditional ceremony among the Ilchamus community in Baringo county known as ‘Elpatit’. Here, a young man's head is shaved clean initiating him to be a president (Launon)of a new age-set (ILKIRAU). And as Sarafina Robi reports, this ceremony has significant procedures that inculcates the Ilchamus culture from generation to generation safeguarding it from extinction.
