The Association of Mijikenda Clergy has called on the government to reintroduce corporal punishment in schools, arguing that its ban has contributed to rising indiscipline and school unrest. Speaking in Malindi during the launch of the Kilifi Chapter, the clergy linked increasing cases of school chaos to weakened moral values, poor parenting, and reduced disciplinary measures.
The religious leaders said earlier generations benefited from stricter discipline that helped shape responsible citizens, while also urging parents to take a more active role in instilling morals in children. Their remarks come amid growing concern over school unrest cases reported across the country.
