A section of Mijikenda elders under the Sauti ya Wazee Community-Based Organization (CBO) is calling on the government to deploy armed police officers to boarding senior schools to address the increasing cases of student unrest across the country. Speaking in Malindi, the elders argued that unarmed security guards have failed to prevent school strikes, arson attacks, and destruction of property. They also called for the arrest and prosecution of security guards, matrons, and student leaders whenever unrest occurs, saying they have a duty to safeguard learners.
