Mombasa Senator Mohamed Faki has criticized the county government over the worsening garbage situation across the coastal city, blaming the Department of Environment and Water for failing to effectively manage waste collection and disposal.
Speaking during a community engagement forum in Mvita Sub-County, Faki expressed concern over the accumulation of waste in major streets, warning that it poses serious health risks to residents and damages Mombasa's image as a leading tourist destination.
The senator's remarks come as Mombasa prepares to host a major international ocean conference next week, expected to attract delegates and visitors from around the world. He urged county officials to intensify cleanup efforts and ensure the city presents a positive image during the global event.
