Mombasa strengthening emergency preparedness ahead of El-nino rains

The Mombasa County Disaster Risk Management Committee is stepping up preparations for the anticipated heavy El nino rains expected from the second week of October, after yesterday’s heavy downpour exposed the county’s vulnerability to flooding. Addressing Journalists Governor Nassir announced tough measures to curb flooding and protect lives and property noting that from Monday, developers in Mombasa will be required to use pre-mixed concrete prohibiting the mixing of cement, sand and ballast at construction sites.
