What happens when your personal history collides with a nation’s political turning point? In his BAFTA nominated new film - My Father’s Shadow, director Akinola Davies Jr explores masculinity, family, memory and trauma against the political backdrop of Nigeria’s 1993 annulled presidential election. It follows two young brothers who explore Lagos with their estranged father amid the country's social unrest. The BBC’s Yemisi Adegoke spoke to Davies Jr ahead of the film’s theatrical release.
