People Living with Disabilities in Migori have been urged to visit Migori County Referral Hospital for assessment in order to receive free wheelchairs. Fredrick Otieno, the Doctor in Charge of Physiotherapy at the facility, said the county government, in partnership with the Walkabout Foundation, will hold a Wheelchair Service Week to help address mobility challenges among people with disabilities.
Otieno said different types of wheelchairs will be issued depending on the nature of a person’s disability to ensure proper mobility support. Since 2023, the Walkabout Foundation has issued 210 wheelchairs in Migori County, with 100 more set to be distributed this year. The initiative aims to improve independence and economic empowerment for PLWD by enhancing their mobility and access to opportunities.
