Police intensify patrols in Mutunduri, Embu after chaos

Tensions are high in Mutunduri, in Embu County, after police officers arrived early on Sunday and started patrolling the area. DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua claims police have been deployed there to arrest Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji, following violent clashes between residents and police outside Nembure Stadium on Saturday. One person died during the clashes, which erupted after residents were locked out of a UDA delegates meeting, attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. In a statement, Gachagua accused the government of using the criminal justice system to harass opposition leaders. He says they have mobilised a team of lawyers to defend Mukunji, should he be arrested in connection with the incident.
