The State Department of Livestock Development has announced plans to partner with county governments and stakeholders to address emerging challenges affecting Kenya’s livestock sector.
Speaking during the Mt Kenya ASK Show in Nanyuki, Principal Secretary Jonathan Mueke highlighted key issues, including livestock disease outbreaks, rangeland degradation, and poor market access.
The government plans to roll out nationwide vaccination campaigns and improve livestock breeding through artificial insemination programmes. Farmers have also been affected by reduced beef exports linked to the ongoing Middle East conflict.
