Rais mstaafu Kikwete aeleza hayati Mwinyi alikuwa rahimu lakini hana uoga katika maamuzi
Ali Hassan Mwinyi, ambaye katika awamu mbili kama rais wa Tanzania alisimamia kuanzishwa kwa demokrasia ya vyama vingi na kuanzishwa kwa uchumi huria, amefariki akiwa na umri wa miaka 98.
Alizaliwa Mei 8, 1925 katika kijiji cha Kivure katika mkoa wa Pwani. Mwinyi alikulia katika kisiwa kilichokuwa na utawala wa kiasi cha Zanzibar na kufanya kazi ya ualimu kabla ya kujiunga na utumishi wa serikali. Alishikilia nyadhifa mbali mbali za juu, ikiwemo katibu mkuu katika wizara ya elimu ya Zanzibar.
Mwinyi aliaga dunia Alhamisi kutokana na saratani ya mapafu katika mji wa wa kibiashara, Dar es Salaam, nchini Tanzania ambako alikuwa amelazwa hospitali kwa wiki kadhaa, Rais Samia Suluhu Hassan alitangaza katika kituo cha televisheni cha taifa TBC1.
