Schools in Kenya's semi-arid regions are being encouraged to adopt climate-smart agriculture to strengthen school feeding programmes and reduce learner absenteeism and dropout. In Laikipia County, schools are transforming idle land into productive farms through an initiative by Segera Feeding Programme in partnership with Miti Alliance. The programme provides greenhouses and water storage tanks to help schools grow fast-maturing crops despite harsh weather conditions. Stakeholders say the initiative is improving food security in schools, but warn that inadequate government funding continues to undermine school feeding programmes, leaving many dependent on donors and community support.
