SHARP DIVISIONS EMERGE OVER 2026 CHENDA CHENDA CELEBRATIONS

Sharp divisions have emerged among Mijikenda cultural leaders ahead of the annual Chenda Chenda celebrations held every September 9 to honour Mijikenda heroes and heroines and celebrate the community’s cultural heritage. This year, two separate events were organized in Kilifi County: one at Kaya Kauma in Kauma Sub-County, led by Mijikenda elders, and another at Pwani University in Kilifi town, spearheaded by the Kilifi County Government Department of Culture.
