Stakeholders in child welfare, health, education, and human rights have called for urgent interventions to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services for children during the Day of the African Child celebrations held at Tononoka Social Hall in Mombasa’s Mvita Sub-County. The event, themed “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa,” highlighted ongoing challenges facing learners, including lack of safe drinking water, inadequate sanitation facilities, and insufficient menstrual hygiene support in schools. Officials from the Mombasa County Government, the education sector, and child rights organizations emphasized the need for improved school health programmes, better infrastructure, and consistent supply of sanitary products to ensure dignity and equal access to education for all learners.
