Supporters of Housing Levy hold demonstrations in Nairobi

A section of Nairobi dwellers and youth in the Jua Kali sector on Thursday held demonstrations in Nairobi’s central business district, in support of the government’s affordable housing project. The protestors who say they are direct beneficiaries of the project have faulted the courts for declaring the levy unconstitutional, saying that it amounts to denying them employment opportunities. as Mary Muoki reports, the demos come a day after the Court of Appeal certified as urgent Senator Okiya Omtatah's application to vacate stay orders issued by the High Court when it declared the Housing Fund and sections of the finance act 2023 uncostitutional.
