Africa has the potential to not only feed its growing population but also become a major player in global food systems. However, experts warn that soil degradation, water scarcity, and climate variability continue to threaten agricultural productivity across the continent.
Speaking during a two-day international workshop in Nairobi, stakeholders under the Climate Smart Water Management and Sustainable Development for Food and Agriculture in East Africa (WATDEV) initiative emphasized the urgent need for sustainable soil, water, and energy management to build resilient agri-food systems.
The workshop, organized by ASARECA, brought together researchers, policymakers, and farmers to review the achievements of the EU-funded WATDEV project being implemented in Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan.
