Three gold miners have lost their lives after the walls of an underground gold mine collapsed in Manyata Village, Vihiga County. The three were among five people who were on a gold mining expedition in the area. According to the residents, two people were pulled out of the rubble alive and are currently recuperating at the Vihiga County referral hospital. Among the dead is a 38-year-old man identified as Patrick Eseli. Speaking at the scene, Vihiga County commissioner Felix Watakila has called on the community to observe safety regulations, adding that they will launch a crackdown on all unlicensed mining activities.
