Three officials linked to the irregular burial of 33 bodies in Kericho County were arraigned in court on Thursday and released on a bond of 500,000 shillings each, after pleading not guilty to charges of illegally disposing of bodies without proper authorization.
Appearing before Chief Magistrate Thomas Obutu, at the Kericho law courts, the suspects, a chief mortician, a public health officer, and a cemetery caretaker were accused of coordinating the burial at NCCK Makaburini Cemetery on March 20th, 2026, without valid burial permits, despite a court order that only allowed the disposal of 13 unclaimed bodies. Investigations reveal that instead, 33 bodies and six body parts were buried in gunny bags, prompting legal action with the matter set for pre-trial on June 8, 2026.
