The Kenya Tourism Federation has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his statement that Kenya is currently risky for investors and tourists. Through its chairperson, Fred Odek, the federation says such statements risk undermining confidence in Kenya's tourism sector. The federation urged the political class to avoid utterances that could erode the gains made in building the country's reputation as a leading tourist destination. Odek said, "Tourism is not a tap that can be switched off today and turned back on at will." The federation maintained that tourism should not be dragged into domestic political contests, calling on both tourists and investors to disregard Gachagua's remarks and continue experiencing Magical Kenya through its wildlife, sandy beaches, rich cultural heritage, and hospitality. Gachagua made the remarks during a church service on Sunday.
