Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii is in the spotlight following controversial remarks before a Senate committee investigating why 90 per cent of the county staff belong to a single ethnic community despite Eldoret's elevation to city status. The governor sparked outrage among lawmakers after claiming that devolution was intended to support natives in their home counties. Senators demanded an immediate withdrawal, forcing Bii to recant his statement and issue a formal apology.
