Fresh controversy has emerged over the planned expansion of Wajir Airport, with affected landowners now threatening legal action against the Kenya Airports Authority and the Wajir County Government over what they term as unlawful land acquisition and exclusion from key consultative meetings. More than 400 families are said to be affected, with residents accusing the Kenya Airports Authority of failing to conduct public participation or offer compensation before marking the land for acquisition. The landowners, through Jamal and Company Advocates, claim they were locked out of meetings held in Wajir last month to discuss the acquisition of private land bordering the airport despite being directly affected by the proposed expansion project.
