Five Maranda High School students accused of setting a school dormitory on fire have been released on a cash bail of Sh30,000 each after appearing before a Bondo court.
The students, who denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, are accused of willfully setting ablaze Owino ‘B’ dormitory on May 24, 2026, causing damage estimated at over Sh2 million.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), investigations led to only five students being charged with arson, while four others will serve as state witnesses. Three additional students were released after investigators found no evidence linking them to the incident.
