The National Assembly’s Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC), chaired by Tharaka MP George Murugara, is reviewing a proposed Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Bill aimed at repealing the outdated 1974 Standards Act. The new legislation seeks to modernize Kenya’s standards framework and strengthen consumer protection in line with current industrial, commercial, and trade developments. Murugara emphasized that the goal is to create a robust legal foundation that will serve the country for the next half-century while empowering KEBS to fulfil its regulatory mandate effectively.
