Siaya County hosted a major widows’ empowerment event at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (JOOUST), led by Interior PS Dr. Raymond Omollo and ODM leader Dr. Oburu Oginga. The program supports widows with housing, livelihoods, education, and community development. Since its launch, it has reached 22,620 widows across 377 groups in 42 constituencies, investing over KSh 200 million. So far, 26 permanent homes have been built, 601 students supported through scholarships, and 69 groups engaged in income-generating tree-planting projects. The event in Siaya marks the latest chapter in a nationwide effort to ensure widows gain economic independence, social dignity, and a voice in their communities, reinforcing the program as a model for inclusive, sustainable development in Kenya.
