Legal experts are warning that the next general elections can be in jeopardy if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission fails to urgently find a replacement for Marjan Hussein Marjan, who left on Wednesday. According to an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, Duncan Okatch, the commission’s Chief Executive Officer is the accounting officer who oversees the day-to-day running of the commission, and without such an arm the institution is rendered incapacitated. Okatch claims the timelines may not favour the commission, which has 17 months to the 2027 general election.
