A standoff has emerged between a section of leaders from Laikipia and Samburu Counties over the allocation of 44,000 acres of land in Kirimon Laikipia North, which borders the two counties. The land is allegedly supposed to be divided into two, 34,000 acres to be set aside for a conservancy and 10,000 acres for allocation to local communities. Samburu County Governor Jonathan Lati allegedly claims the land should be allocated to communities in his region. His sentiments have angered a section of Laikipia County Ward representatives who argue that the disputed land is in their region.
