Thousands of households in Siaya County are set to benefit from a KES 2.2 billion rural electrification programme under the Last Mile Connectivity Project. The initiative aims to connect about 25,000 homes to the national power grid, improving security, expanding economic opportunities and enhancing the quality of life in rural communities. Residents say access to electricity has reduced crime, eased daily living and opened doors for small businesses. Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi says the government remains committed to expanding electricity access across the county, with more funding expected in the next financial year.
