A major community-driven mangrove restoration initiative is reshaping Kenya's coastline after 20,000 mangrove seedlings were planted in Mwamdudu, Tsunza, Kwale County.
The restoration exercise, led by Furaha & Baraka Farms in partnership with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), the I&M Foundation through I&M Bank, and the Mwatsumbo Community Forest Association (CFA), aims to restore degraded mangrove ecosystems while creating sustainable livelihoods for local communities.
Furaha & Baraka Farms says it has already planted nearly six million mangrove trees and is working towards a target of 13 million trees across 1,300 hectares. The initiative is also supporting Kenya's national goal of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
