Deadly protests in Siaya, unrest in Bungoma over insecurity

Two people have been shot dead in Gem, Siaya county, as they attempted to forcefully gain access to Ramula police post, as residents of Mununga village in the neighboring Vihiga county protested the licensing of a gold mining firm, seeking to operate in the area. According to Gem sub-county police Commander Mr. Charles Wafula, the two were shot as police tried to contain rowdy protestors surging towards the police post, hurling stones. And as Kamau Mwangi reports, the police had to fire in the air to repel tens of residents of Sang’alo, in Kanduyi, who attempted to storm the police station. The locals were protesting rising insecurity in the area.
