Education CS cracks down on school fee hikes, dissolves Alliance Girls board

The government has issued a stern warning to school principals across the country over rising concerns of illegal fee hikes, as parents continue to feel the pressure of high education costs. Education cabinet secretary Migos Ogamba says disciplinary action will be taken against any principal found guilty of imposing excessive fees beyond the ministry-approved rates. Ogamba says the directive follows complaints from parents, including those at Alliance Girls’ High School, over a more than 100 percent fee increase. And as Gatete Njoroge reports, the Teachers’ Service Commission has been directed to discipline Margaret Njeru for implementing an unauthorised fee structure.
