Fertiliser shortage threatens Kenya’s food security

The shortage of fertiliser in Kenya's breadbasket, triggered by the war in Iran, is threatening the country's food security as farmers face a delayed planting season. Some farmers are now being forced to purchase fertiliser from private vendors at exorbitant prices and re-plough weed-infested farms as they wait for subsidized fertiliser. The government is now assuring them that one million bags of fertiliser are in the country, ready for distribution.
