The final moments of the late Rex Kanyike Masai were revisited in court on Monday, as his best friend and colleague from a casino at Nairobi’s Yaya Centre took the stand in a high-profile inquest that has dragged on for nearly two years. George Ndiaka recounted how an ordinary day quickly descended into chaos. He told the court that police officers, both in uniform and plainclothes, opened fire indiscriminately, firing live rounds in all directions. Ndikas testified that he heard three gunshots, one of which struck Masai in the left thigh, a wound that proved fatal.
