The government has renewed its calls for a major increase in local coffee consumption to ten percent by the end of next year from the current three percent. The move is aimed at strengthening the sector’s growth. Speaking during the inauguration of the National and County Steering Committees on Coffee Revival, the Cooperatives and MSMEs Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya said Kenya lags far behind neighbouring countries in domestic uptake, an issue he believes must change if farmers are to earn more and the value chain is to stabilise.
