Government reinstates the Directorate of Nurses to empower the nursing profession

The government, through the Ministry of Health, has reinstated the Directorate of Nurses in a move aimed at strengthening and empowering the nursing profession. Speaking during the International Nurses and Midwives Day that took place in Nairobi, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale regretted that for a long time the Directorate has been lacking, yet established in the constitution, saying its non-existence had paralysed the profession. While acknowledging the challenges nurses face while on duty, Duale reaffirmed the government's commitment to investing in the profession, which he said is the backbone of the healthcare system in the country.
