The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has proposed a new set of regulations to modernise product certification, market surveillance, laboratory testing and the handling of conditionally released and rejected imports. The proposed 2026 regulations seek to close regulatory gaps, improve enforcement, strengthen consumer protection and ensure that products entering the Kenyan market meet required standards. KEBS says the reforms are necessary because some existing regulations date back more than four decades and have not kept pace with technological and trade changes.
