Kenya moves towards sugar self-sufficiency following leasing of four mills

The Kenya Sugar Board now says the country is steadily moving towards self-sufficiency in sugar production, with the COMESA safeguard on sugar imports set to expire in November. This comes six months after four publicly-owned sugar mills were leased to private investors, a move aimed at reviving the country’s struggling sugar industry.
